Continuous Integration (CI) does an absolutely huge amount of work in the background of application development and releases of updates. Call it a guardian, a sentinel, a watch dog - it's apropos. A modern web application that is properly versioned and connects to a half dozen or more applications is a prime candidate for things to go wrong. CI helps to prevent that.
